Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about how JSA works and where experienced financial leadership can help.

A fractional CFO provides experienced financial leadership without the cost or commitment of a full-time CFO. I work with owners and leadership teams to turn financial information into better decisions about cash, profitability, forecasting, growth, capital investments, and the future of the business.

That’s often exactly where I fit best. Your Controller and accounting team are responsible for producing accurate financial information and keeping the accounting function running. I work alongside them to connect that information to the strategic decisions facing the business. The goal isn’t to replace your team. It’s to add the CFO-level perspective that helps ownership and leadership use the numbers to decide what comes next

Your CPA or accounting firm typically focuses on tax, compliance, audits, and historical financial reporting. JSA works with you inside the business, using financial information to help you make decisions about the future. I don’t replace your CPA. A strong relationship between your internal finance team, outside CPA, and strategic financial leadership gives you better information and greater confidence in your decisions.

Some companies absolutely should. But many businesses need experienced CFO-level leadership before they need—or can justify—the cost of another full-time executive. A fractional relationship gives you access to that experience based on what your business actually needs. And if the company eventually reaches the point where a full-time CFO makes sense, that’s a good outcome.

JSA engagements are structured around the needs of your company rather than adding another full-time executive position. After understanding what you need, I’ll recommend a scope and fee that makes sense for the work involved. We’ll agree on the scope and cost before the engagement begins. No surprises.

No. Much of the work can be done remotely, but there are times when being onsite adds value—especially when learning the operation, working with your team, or participating in important leadership discussions. We’ll use the combination that makes the most sense for your business.
